My Garden Compost Pile: Feed Me Seymour

I made this compost bin out of wooden pallets that I begged off of the neighborhood electrical supply store (freeganomics).  I will nail some chicken wire to the interior so that the dirt won't fall out the back and still supply enough aeration and ventillation.  Since I couldn't get any free dirt this year due to the lack of new housing starts, I decided to create my own supply of fresh dirt.  I put table scraps, leaves and lawn clippings in this one.  I will add an expansion for newspapers.  Worms will eat both table scraps and newspapers and will convert both to rich castings.  However, if put in the same pile they will eat one first and leave the other to be converted last.

It is fall. This is a photo that came with my new computer and software.  My old computer caught several viruses (malware and av2009).  It was more economical to buy a new computer than to restore the old one.  I will do that later and donate it to the Goodwill.  They have a great used computer and electronics department. This aligns with my goals to recycle, reduce and reuse more. I also donate my old cars to the Goodwill, two so far.

This is a picture I took from my car of the trees just turning.

Free food!  We have several walnut trees in our shared space (shared with 2 other tenants and many squirrels).  I will peel the hulls off of these and then dry them.  Once dried, I will bake them into my brownies.

We also have several mulberry trees.  These will be used in the summer for muffins or we will simply eat the fruit by itself.  I want to add a recipe segment to this site.
