Harvest time Blues: The squirrels took my nuts!

0874676.gif Squirrel image by LadyLunaSea Whew, I needed that, after hauling aw those nuts.

I've just polished off the last bit of pole beans that I got from my garden. Included with that was a wild garlic that I got from my compost heap and two tomatoes that I had sitting on my window sill.  I wanted to get to the tomatoes before the killing frost in zone five.  As long as they have even the slightest bit of pinkish orangish coloring, they will ripen on the sill.  So far this has been true.

And then...the squirrels stole my nuts.  As Pop-eye would say, "I done stoods all dat I can stands 'til I can't stands no more!"  I had the kids fill a bucket full of walnuts so that I could later hull and dry them out, then use them in some homemade brownies.  They had sat there untouched for about a week.  Well, some snow flurries blew in and I guess the squirrels said, "Sorry lady, but a squirrel's gotta do what a squirrel's gotta do."  And they took ALL of my nuts.
