The True Cost of Fuel...

1/12/2010 Happy New Year Gas Prices n Da 'Burgh!
Gas Prices, the Year in Review
These were May 2009 gas prices, they topped out at 2.69 in time for my Happy Mother's Day rant and were threatening, and did make it to $2.75 in time to take advantage of when the public service companies that supply heating and cooking oil purchase their supplies for the coming year and for summer vacation! This is no mere coincidence; this is planned; this is manipulation.

Who Killed the Electric Car?
The electric car was developed by GM, in the 90's. It was called the EV1. There was a test program and everything. This car was test driven by both regular folks and celebrities,in California, around 1996. This car was getting rave reviews. It was fast, produced no exhaust, ran without gas and was quiet. Gm confiscated all the cars and had them literally shredded and thrown on the junk pile. Now the word on the street is that a new all electric car is being developed to be released (get this) by 2029? Why the wait? As Willie Wonka would say, "The suspense is killing me, I hope it will last!"
Lying in the business world is called PR, Public Relations, Hype, Spin etc. any way you cut it, it's still lying.

This is a Work In Progress

What happened?
Gas/Oil Companies (Lucy Van Pelt) and We the Consumer (Charlie Brown)
Now that we know the prices of gas and oil are being artificially manipulated, by speculators who buy, sell and trade (Not China, Nor Supply and Demand) thereby, can create artificial scarcity when there is none, causing the prices to go up, why do we keep enabling them by over consumption, allowing ourselves to be manipulated by our wants and not needs.
This Country was built on public protest. That is why, to this very day there is no tax on tea (Boston Tea Party the old one not the new version). However, when it comes to gas and oil, we, act like Charlie Brown, who keeps getting suckered in to trying to kick that elusive football that Lucy holds for him, then pulls it away at the last second. The ball represents our over consumption habit of these products. We get suckered back in every time. As soon as the prices go down, I see the SUV's and Hummers back on the road. One doesn't have to be as demonstrative as the Boston Tea Party or G20, hey, passive aggressiveness will work just fine. Honk all you want when you see me biking or walking to work. Be baffled when you see me ride the bus, although I have a car. I intentionally stayed home for summer vacation when I heard that the speculators were trying to manipulate the prices back up to 2.75 for summer vacationers. I am trying not to be an enabler. Laugh when you see my garden in the City. Like the song says, "I'm lookin' at da man[woman] in the mirror, askin him to change his ways, no message could have been any clearer, if ya wanna make the world a betta place, take a look at yourself and make that CHANGE!"
Thoreau's thoughts about the 'necessaries of life', in his book Walden, included, food, clothing, shelter and fuel!
When I was a kid, I remember the gas crisis in the 70's. I remember the long lines at the gas stations. My teachers and others banded together and organized car pools. What happened?
Speak of Homeland Security, since when has fuel not been an issue of Homeland Security? This last time seemed especially, vicious and targeted. The folks controlling the prices didn't give a flying leap, that grandma could not afford fuel to keep warm or to cook her food. They depended on the attitude of instant gratification, I work too hard not to enjoy myself and that if I can afford it, I'll keep consuming it. What about the principle that just because I can, I'm still not gonna let you keep screwing me over by manipulating these prices...cuz one day i'm gonna retire and be on a fixed income and my passivity now will then catch up with me then.
Fight the powers that be...fight back and remember to share the road!
Saturday - Been watching boxed set of 'Green Acres". We need an Urban version of that. Need an urban version of Oliver Douglas. Instead of leaving the city and setting up stakes in the country, how about the opposite, set up stakes in the City and adapt that homesteading spirit here. You heard it here first.
Friday - The Death of Common Sense/ From the London Times
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn’t always fair; and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I’m A Victim
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing
